Good alternative to the self-publishing model

I read Joseph Ngunjiri’s article in last Sunday’s edition of Lifestyle titled A fast track to self-publishing (May 29) with a keen interest.

As much as I agreed with some of the observations he made regarding self-publishing, I felt he did not present a balanced view of self-publishing as an alternative to getting published.

Whereas it is a correct observation that self-publishing ensures the author is in charge of the publishing process both in terms of quality, timing and content, the flip side is worth looking at to develop a balanced view.

The underlying assumption in this perspective is that the self-published author knows and appreciates what quality publishing is, which is not always the case, especially for the first-time authors.
